Q. How much will I get paid?
A. Salary levels are determined by class status at the time of application.  Currently the rates are as follows:
Sophomore&Junior $390/week
Senior $430/week
Graduate/Law Student $510/week

Q.   Who pays for my travel expenses?
A.  HACU pays for round-trip airfare.  If you wish to drive, HACU will reimburse you for pre-approved reasonable expenses        (not to exceed the cost of a ticket purchased through our designated travel agency) if original receipts are provided.

Q.   Where will I live?
A.  HACU  works to identify the safest, most affordable, and most convenient housing in the area you will be living. In the Washington, DC area, most summer interns live at college dormitories.  Field interns may live in dormitories, in apartments, or with other people you will be working with.

Q.   Does HACU pay for my housing?
A.  No, HACU will work to arrange housing for you, provided any necessary deposits, pay any upfront costs and pre-paid expenses (such as a security deposits), and will make the rent payments.  These costs will then be deducted from your stipend checks.

Q.   If I have family or friends in the area, can I live with them instead?
A.  Yes, but you'll need to tell us as soon as you are accepted and provide us with your address, phone, and name of household.  Otherwise we will go ahead and arrange housing for you.

Q.   Can I start my internship before the official start date or leave before the end?
A.  No, the dates on the application are really strict.   Interns have to arrive in Washington, DC for orientation and work through the last day of the program.

Q.   Do I have to go to orientation even if I was an intern before?
A.  Yes, each orientation is different.  As our program grows and expands, we make changes that you need to know about.  Besides, orientation is a great place to meet your fellow interns.
